During the debate, it was strongly suggested that if I couldn’t remember the exact date when the Superior Court Application was filed, perhaps it was not filed. To be clear, the application was filed June 19, 2026. The application is attached here. I have been the only elected person to consistently represent, to advocate and to be the strong voice for the residents on this GFL Landfill Odour issue.

- led the city’s advocacy to Minister, Deputy Minister and District Office of MECP
- secured council resolution to prevent any future landfill expansion requests
- secured council support requesting the Ontario Government to close landfill
- secured city council support to proceed with Sec. 447.1 litigation to close landfill
- worked to find the legal firms to represent residents in lawsuit
- fully participated in every GFL community update meeting & every CLC meeting
- joined residents at every protest to end the stink and close the landfill
- worked with MP Ned Kuruc to host two federal community meetings

Although the landfill falls under provincial jurisdiction and the City has zero authority – I’ve continued to fight and advocate for the residents.
In fact my career in advocacy began in the late 1990s when I co-founded and chaired Stoney Creek Residents Against Pollution, SCRAP. Our sole purpose was to bring the community together to fight the proposed landfill.
My fight didn’t begin AFTER I decided to run for office. For me, it was the other way around. Residents encouraged me to run for office as a result of my work with SCRAP.
